Horn Ok Please – A unique phrase that will usually see behind the trucks. The line denotes that driver must honk the horn to overtake the vehicle ahead of them.
But what is more interesting is about the origin of this phrase. There are several origin theories for the “Horn Ok Please.”
As mentioned, there is no specific data available, but it is said that renowned conglomerate Tata Group is behind the line.
In the early days, most of the trucks were manufactured by Tata Group and one of their product’s (detergent) name was called ‘OK.’
And to publicize their new brand, they creatively added the name as well as the Logo in the shape of lotus flower behind the trucks.
As per another theory, the original phrase was Horn OTK, please. OTK was used as short form for overtaking. And since the T would merge because of the paneling of the truck it got mistaken for OK.
Many do not know that the usage of this phrase is banned in Maharashtra state.
