Causes Of Cramps

Cramps occur when there is a reduction in blood supply to the muscle (Transient: Ischemia / Prolonged: Infarction).

The nutrient and oxygen supply required by the muscle is not sufficient, whenever there is a reduction in blood supply. Also, there is a failure in the relaxation of muscles, resulting in pain and cramp.

  • Reduced/Poor blood supply to the muscle
  • Dehydration
  • Insufficient warm-up prior to strenuous exercise
  • Overexertion of muscles
  • Exercising in a hot climate
