Why You Should Have a Laptop as an Artist

As an artist, you may think that if you have your chosen medium at your fingertips, be it water colour paints or a pencil, then you have all you need to be an artist. However, it is well worth considering the importance of having a laptop as an artist, and how it can benefit you.

A World of Inspiration at Your Fingertips

With access to the online world on a laptop for artists, you can gain inspiration from a variety of resources. You can easily look up and research fellow artists and discover art from around the globe. Then, when inspiration hits, you have a great way of making notes and storing images straight away on your laptop. The portability of a laptop means you can take it with you easily wherever you go and have it to hand. With its lightweight and compact size, it is easy to add to your bag along with your other art supplies and you can take it with you when visiting galleries or when creating art out and about.

Create Digital Art

Why not try something new and create some digital art? There is lots of software now available to artists making it easy for you to try. You don’t need to be good at graphic design to be a great digital artist. If you have a drawing tablet, then you are able to recreate the effects of painting, drawing, colouring and all sorts, all digitally on the tablet! The benefits of this are that if you want to try out a different medium such as acrylic paints rather than water colour paints, this is a great way to do that without having to buy a new set of paints. Try different effects to what you normally would. You can create without fear of making mistakes. Your art is easily edited. Then connect your tablet to your laptop in order to print it out, share it online, or even sell.

Sell Your Artwork Online

If you are an artist, then having a laptop is a great way of sharing your artwork with the world. You can share it on social media, but you could also start to sell it online. The benefits of this are that you can keep overheads low because you won’t have to rent a gallery space.

You could open your own online store where you can sell the physical artwork you have created. Equally, if you have started to create more digital art, then there are plenty of print on demand websites that will allow you to upload your art and designs and they will do all the printing for you. You will have all the fun of creating your art, then watching the commission payments roll in!

Being able to run an online store from your laptop means you can turn your art into a business, and you can be in control of that business at all times.

So, whether you want to create art just for yourself, or want to start selling online, having a laptop is a great addition that benefits you as an artist.
