Paranormal Hours – 3:00 AM
You had a long day at work and can’t wait to get home and collapse on your cosy bed that never fails to engulf you in its warmth. You ensure that the alarm is set because if it weren’t for this saviour, you would blatantly sleep through the morning, thus climbing down a step on the ladder of punctuality. Before finally dozing off to sleep, you switch off the lights in your room, letting the darkness in. You’re having an amazing dream when suddenly, your eyes abruptly open and you’re greeted with nothing but darkness. You promptly check the clock to read the time as 3:07 am.
At that instant, your brain starts playing a tricky game with you. You remember all those horror movies you had watched in which the protagonists wake up at around 3 am out of the blue. Scared out of your acuity, you decide to neglect those thoughts and drift off to sleep again.
Reasons behind unusual hours
But what if this keeps happening to you every night? Were those fictitious movies true or is there a realistic explanation for this? According to Science, waking up at ungodly hours in the night could be due to a sleeping disorder or maybe even to pee. Your diet plays a significant role in your sleeping schedule especially if it includes fats and high protein foods.
Also, it is necessary to keep yourself hydrated. And by hydration, we mean water. Alcohol, caffeine and soft drinks contribute generously to your erratic sleeping pattern. Apart from these factors, anxiety and stress also make it a point to deprive you of your beauty sleep when you need it the most. Besides, waking up unusually could probably just be a consequence of your noisy pet or your snoring partner or even the traffic outside your house.
But what if, you sleep alone, your house is at an isolated place where you couldn’t hear the traffic even if you wanted to, and your Mum wouldn’t allow a pet in your house no matter how good your persuasion skills are? Other than the scientific reasons for this abnormal waking up at odd hours, there are also some paranormal beliefs that people have assumed to be true. Some say that if you suddenly wake up in the middle of the night, there’s a chance that someone was staring at you while you were asleep. Now, why would anybody want to sacrifice their sleep just to stare at you in the middle of the night? Then again, it all depends on who that ‘anybody’ is.
Devil’s hour of midnight
‘The witching hour’ or the ‘The devil’s hour’ begins from around 3 am. It is said that the supernatural entities are most powerful during this time. Also, it is believed that if you wake up during this period of the night, someone from the spirit family visited you. While you ponder over these myths, debating the actuality of the witching hour, the atheists would be laughing at you and your naive mind. Though many people have actually experienced weird things when they wake up during the devil’s hour, it could also be brushed off as an exaggeration of perfectly normal things.
There’s a reason why myths are known as myths and not facts. In today’s modern world, people strictly follow the ‘seeing is believing’ approach and won’t feel anything until they’ve experienced it themselves. But even if you wake up at night during the devil’s hour, calm your curiosity and don’t wait for the unexpected to happen. Just go back to sleep!
