Small bumps on your face are a common occurrence. There could be several reasons behind the small bumps. But before we move further on how to get rid of these bumps, it’s essential to identify them. These could be of any size, texture, or color. Depending on the way it looks, it could either be comedones, inflamed pimples, skin tags, an allergic reaction, or the most common Milia.

Milia are small white bumps that appear on the face. They are usually clustered on specific areas like the nose, forehead, or chin. However, they may be visible in other parts as well. Milia usually forms due to the keratin build-up which gets trapped under the skin surface.  

These type of bumps appear mostly on newborn babies but also affects adolescents and adults. Although they are cured without any treatment, we bring you a few tips to get even skin quickly and easily!

1. Avoid Picking, Poking, Or Removing The Small Bumps By Squeezing Them

The first and foremost advice to cure the small bumps on your face is to avoid picking or poking the affected area. If you forcefully try to remove milia, it may bleed, or permanently scar. Moreover, tearing open the bump may increase the risk of infection. It is essential to let milia heal on its own.  

You must also avoid touching the affected area too much. Even this may transfer bacteria and increase the risk of acne and other infections.

2. Clean The Area With The Small Bumps, Regularly 

For your small bumps to heal and disappear, it is essential to wash your face regularly. Keeping the affected area clean and dry is one most critical tips to avoid the bumps altogether. However, regular washing should be done with gentle, paraben-free soap. Harsh soaps or facewashes with chemicals may strip your face from its natural oils. Whereas using mild soaps helps prevent skin irritation.

After cleansing your face, pat dry your skin, instead of air drying it. Pat drying your skin will help in preventing it from drying out. Keep the affected area clean.

3. Take Steam To Open Pores 

Taking steam after cleansing is beneficial. It further removes dirt and irritants that may be the cause of your small bumps. You can take steam by sitting in the bathroom, with a hot atmosphere. It is essential to sit in the steam for a minimum of 5 to 8 minutes. The steam will help open pores, and release the dirt trapped under the surface.

After taking steam, pat dry your skin and wash with lukewarm water. This will remove all the excess irritants. It will help in avoiding small bumps and reducing them.

4. Exfoliate The Affected Area

Exfoliating your skin gently will help to keep your skin free of dirt and bacteria, causing the small bumps. Exfoliators with salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or citric acid help in preventing the overproduction of keratin in your skin. There are several benefits for exfoliating your skin. It furthermore helps in reducing hyper-pigmentation, removing blemishes, and getting rid of dead skills. It also helps in the moisturizer penetrating the skin better, reducing the small bumps overall.

However, too much exfoliating can irritate the skin further. So it’s recommended not to exfoliate daily. Exfoliate the affected area once a week. And if it improves the small bumps, you can continue using it, twice a week.

5. Try Home Remedy Mask Consisting Of Honey, Rose, And Cinnamon 

Applying honey masks, with rose extracts and cinnamon have antibacterial properties, which helps in reducing the small bumps. Furthermore, it helps in reducing inflammation as well. It also helps in fighting bacteria that cause acne, which might be the cause of the small bumps as well. Honey masks improve the overall look of your skin.

6. Facial Peels Help In Reducing Small Bumps 

Facial peels that exfoliate help in reducing small bumps. But continue using it only if facial peeling is a part of the cleansing routine. Otherwise, it’s better to test it out before you include it in your routine. A facial peel too string for your skin may be harmful as well. So it is advised to be careful with facial peels.  

Facial peels remove the top layer of your skin, leaving it clean and fresh. Therefore, along with softer and smoother skin, you get rid of the small bumps as well. The most recommended facial peels are the ones that contain salicylic acid or glycolic acid.

7. Include Retinol And Retinoid Creams In Your Routine 

To get rid of the small bumps, that make your skin uneven, it is essential to include topical retinoid creams and retinol as vitamin A derivatives in your daily routine. Vitamin A is a vital vitamin for your skin’s health. Thus using a cream with either retinol or retinoid once a day is beneficial for your skin, be it to avoid small bumps or overall fair skin.

However, with retinoid creams, use a good sunscreen. Retinoid creams damage the skin under sun exposure.

8. Use A Gentle Sunscreen 

Small bumps or no small bumps, sunscreen is a necessary and vital part of skincare. Sunscreens help in protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays, and other harmful rays. Furthermore, sunscreens also help in avoiding small bumps, which may irritate the skin. The little bumps are reduced to fewer numbers with regular sunscreen protection. Make sure you use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. At the same time, it should be gentle, with less harmful and unnecessary chemicals.
