What Are The Advantages Of Considering TMS Therapy?

There are many different types of treatment options for depression. One of these is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy, which effectively treats major depressive disorder.

However, this form of treatment isn’t always available, and even then, it’s not always as efficient as other options. So if you’re looking for a non-traditional way to treat your depression, you should consider TMS solutions.

 Here are some reasons described.

1. Clinically Effective

Currently, the most well-known form of treatment for depression is psychotherapy, a type of counselling that focuses on helping the patient identify and resolve their problems. While this approach works, there are limitations to it.

The first is that it has a long recovery time; in reality, it would usually take at least one year to recover from a mild case of depression fully. Another limitation is that the patient must be in at least one weekly session throughout this time. These factors make TMS therapy more clinically effective than psychotherapy.

2. More Convenient

This type of therapy can be done in your own home or while travelling if you have a TMS machine with you. This is more convenient than psychotherapy because you don’t need to go to a childcare centre during your sessions. On top of that, other factors like the cost and insurance coverage make TMS therapy more convenient than psychotherapy.

3. Reduces Side Effects

One advantage of TMS therapy is that it has fewer side effects than traditional medications. Not surprisingly, antidepressants can contribute to side effects like sexual dysfunction, weight gain, and decreased libido.

In addition, medications can contribute to problems with memory and concentration, which is never an ideal symptom for someone suffering from depression. On top of all this, SSRIs may cause suicidal thoughts in some individuals because they alter serotonin levels in the brain.

4. Greater Freedom, Greater Comfort

  • TMS therapy can be done in a doctor’s office or even on your own at home.
  • Greater for people with depression often finds it difficult to go out and socialize when they’re experiencing suicidal thoughts.
  • The freedom of doing your sessions at home allows you to focus solely on your treatment without worrying about anything else.

Last words

The cost of TMS therapy is much less than that of traditional medication treatments. In fact, the cost per session is only a fraction of the price of antidepressant medication.
