These Fashion and Beauty Trends can cause Lifelong Harm!

But, some fashion trends can be harmful to our health in the long run. That’s why it is very important to be cautious while embracing certain trends which may cause you more harm than good.

1. Eyelash Extensions

Many people consider Lash extensions as miracle products because they can lengthen and thicken your actual lashes. But the reality is not as perfect as you imagine.

When the artist applies the lashes one by one, they have to use semi-permanent glue. Also, you will have to visit the beauty professional to have touch-ups almost once a month.

In case you wear lash extensions for a long period of time, you may end up experiencing hair loss from your natural eyelashes. In case the fake eyelashes are not applied properly you can even experience permanent damage. So, make sure the beauty artist that you’re working with has graduated from one of the certified beauty school programs because they will be able to advise you on how often you can benefit from this beauty treatment, and also tell you whether or not you are a good candidate.

2. Wearing a Corset

Women have been wearing corsets since forever to achieve the hourglass figure and a perfectly cinched waistline. But wearing tight-fitting corsets only risks our health.

A reputed doctor explained “A tightly worn corset can cause perspiration which may lead to irritation, dry skin and even numbness over the long term. Your stomach may shift beyond the level of diaphragm leading to increased chances of heartburn and acid reflux.

Digestion may be irritated due to the compression of corset over the abdomen area. A tight corset also causes decrease in oxygen intake causing breathlessness.”

3. Tattoos and Piercings

More than 50% of the people under 45 years of age have a tattoo and almost half of them regret this decision. Getting a tattoo means the protective barrier of your skin is damaged, and viruses and bacteria can easily pass through. You may experience small infections around the tattoo area which can lead to more serious health issues such as sepsis.

Many people have reported ink allergies when the equipment used to ink them was not properly cleaned. Also, if you do not get a professional artist, you may even get exposed to viruses like HIV and Hepatitis C.

The same happens when you have a piercing because if the artist does not use sterilization procedures you can suffer from scarring, bleeding and harmful allergic reactions.

3. Toxic Fabrics

Chemically treated fabrics such as acrylic, nylon and rayon are not summer-friendly and it is best to avoid wearing them especially during hot, humid weather.

A renowned dermatologist, says, “Synthetic fabrics such as polyester, nylon and rayon are made with the highest concentration of toxic chemicals which are harmful to the skin. Also, these fabrics don’t let your skin breathe and trap sweat, which can lead to accumulation of bacteria, odour and other diseases.”

4. Heavy Earrings

Earrings really complement your clothes but they also cause wear and tear of the earlobe piercing and could lead to stretching of the earlobe if worn regularly and for longer hours.

The famous Cosmetic Dermatologist and Dermatosurgeon, says, “Heavy earrings can cause strain on the ear lobules. The piercing in the ear lobules can enlarge, which can lead to tearing and breakage. Even occasionally if the earlobe is stitched up surgically, there is a formation of a thick, itchy scar called ‘keloid’ which can keep on increasing in size. There is no possible treatment for the same and one may have to live with it forever.”

5. Skinny Jeans

Who doesn’t love their pair of skinny jeans? But it’s also a known truth that they can be highly uncomfortable to wear. Wearing them for too long periods isn’t a good idea.

One of the doctors says that Skinny jeans can cause fungal infections in the groin area as tight-fitting clothing traps moisture from sweat, creating an ideal environment for fungus to grow.

In men, it can cause pressure on the testicles resulting in low sperm count and sometimes even testicular torsion – a condition caused due to rotation of the testis. Over-tight jeans can also cause numbness or pain in the outer thigh leading to neuralgia.

Moreover, Over- tight clothing can cause more blood to pool in the legs or slow down the blood flow. They can also put extra pressure upon the lower abdomen.

6. Killer High Heels

A pair of High heels is something that no woman can resist. So, it’s quite a bummer that they pose certain health risks that are hard to ignore in the long run. Dr Rahul Shah, an orthopaedic surgeon at the Bhatia Hospital, says, “ High heels typically lack shock absorption, which can lead to local callosities. These situations can become quite serious if you don’t give your feet a chance to heal. As the size rises up in a high-heeled shoe, weight is transferred more to your forefoot.

Wearing high heels too often can also lead to metatarsalgia, which is a painful type of inflammation that occurs in the ball of the foot as a result of recurred pressure on the metatarsal bone (bones in the ball of the foot). High heels can also cause pain in the front of the knee. They can also cause sprains. Back pain is another disadvantage associated with high heels.”

Hence, it is important to make sure that you do not get too involved with any of these fashion trends that can prove to be quite harmful in the long run.
