Baking soda also known as soda bicarbonate is an alkaline chemical compound. It is crystalline in form naturally but is turned into a fine powder to be used for cooking and other activities.

Soda bicarbonate when mixed with an acid releases carbon dioxide. This is the reason why ,vinegar and baking soda when mixed together in the cake batter cause the cake to rise. Apart from being used in chemical labs and for cooking, it also has many health benefits.
