The Right Way to Shampoo your Hair!

Most people actually do not know how to make the shower work in their hair’s favour. This is the reason why they either struggle with hard to manage mane or suffer from scalp conditions that affect their tresses.

If you have always struggled with oily hair, then dig in and learn how to wash your hair in a better way:

The correct and appropriate way to shampoo your hair can make a lot of difference. It may seem to be one of the easiest steps in the morning, but doing it right can do wonders to your hair. Here are 5 rules you must follow while shampooing your hair:

1. Use your palms instead of fingers

Studies show that you should massage your scalp using the tip of your fingers while shampooing. This helps give the scalp a good scrub to loosen up the dirt and build up products but also, this manipulation can actually stimulate the sebum glands in your scalp and make your hair oilier. If you are prone to an oily scalp.

2. Choose the right Shampoo

Pick a right shampoo for your hair type. If you are confused on what shampoo you should buy, you can consult a hair stylist or a trichologist. Moreover, instead of buying a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner combo, buy a separate shampoo and conditioner bottle for better results.

3. Wet your hair properly

One common mistake a lot of us make is not wetting the hair properly. Before applying the product, you must wet your hair under the shower for about 2 to 3 minutes, so that your hair is completely wet. This will also help absorb the product better.

4. Apply it at the right place

While shampooing, focus more on the scalp area, where the roots are and not the hair ends and while you are using a conditioner, lather it on the hair ends and not the roots.

5. Rinse properly

Once you have applied the shampoo, don’t rinse it immediately. Let the shampoo sit on your hair for at least 2 to 3 minutes, so it can work properly. Also, use cold water, instead of hot water. Cold water is going to help seal the hair cuticles, which will prevent further damage.

6. Don’t skip the Conditioner

A very common misconception that people have is that you can skip conditioning if you have an oily scalp and hair. What you should actually do is apply conditioner from the midshaft to the ends only, not on your scalp. Also, rinse thoroughly in order to avoid any conditioner from getting in contact with your scalp.

7. Don’t wash your hair everyday

Washing your hair every day can end up damaging your hair more than you think. Try not to wash your hair more than 3-4 times a week. If you feel your hair is greasy, you can use dry shampoo in between.

8. Avoid applying styling products directly to your scalp

Similarly, it goes with every styling product you use for your hair after washing it. If you have an oily scalp, avoid applying the products directly to your scalp and instead focus on the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.

Even if you are convinced at this point to skip the shampoo next time you are in the shower, quitting shampoo for good, might be too extreme.

Besides, there’s something relaxing about lathering up, right? So how about you just look for better products that don’t contain harsh ingredients for your hair and scalp.
