‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friends’ and this has undoubtedly been one of the major reasons that men are petrified of accompanying women while shopping. God alone knows how many male wallets have suffered the wrath of these diamonds and their prices. But these days, women have made it a point to be independent enough to buy their own diamonds, thus putting the men and their worries at ease. Not everything in life comes easy. Especially if it’s something as precious as diamonds. But apparently, if you lived at Jupiter or Saturn, you would beg to differ.
Why you ask? Because it rains diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn! It is not possible to live on these planets because of their atmospheric conditions, but if it was, you would find the women population all packed and ready, standing at the gates, ready to migrate to the land of free diamonds. But how does this actually happen?
Scientists say that both these planets experience a lot of lightning and thunderstorms. The lightning burns up the methane in the air, thus giving rise to the formation of carbon. And when this carbon falls or rains down on these planets, they merge, forming lumps which are actually lumps of graphite. Once the graphite is formed, it is encountered with pressure from the atmosphere that triggers the creation of diamonds. It is also said that these diamonds do not last long since the high temperatures on these planets result in them turning into other minerals.
Some scientists are pretty sure about this phenomenon while the others find it hard to believe since there are no pieces of evidence about the occurrence of such rains, only assumptions on the basis of chemistry. While speculations are going on about Saturn and Jupiter, scientists believe that there are other planets that experience diamond rains too. Apart from the fear of those massive diamonds falling on our heads, how we wish we could also be one of those planets!
