6 Popular Backyard Games For Kids

Looking for some fun activities for kids to do in the backyard? Parents these days are all trying to figure out how to keep their kids busy at home. Instead of giving them video consoles and tabs, why not entertain them with some traditional kids’ game?

It’s normal for kids aged six and above to get up to 60 minutes of moderate to more vigorous physical activity every day. Now, this is actually important as it is directly linked to improved bone health, and muscles, and reduces symptoms of depression.

With that being said, here are the popular backyard games for kids that will get them moving.

6 Popular Backyard Games For Kids

1. Water Gun

My personal favorite. Water guns are easy to use and provide a ton of fun for the whole family. When you have easy access to water, you can spend hours just by playing with a plastic water pistol.

2. Car Racing

It gets real with this one! This is the activity that will get fierce as you can watch over your respective RC cars to take the lead from a distance. This kind of play benefits kids by increasing intelligence and awareness. Radio-controlled cars are easy and sturdy enough to get maneuvered. They vary in size, type, and interests. Choose your fighter

3. Outdoor Group Games

Everyone loves group games, whether it’s tag, green light/red light, red rover, freeze tag, etc. We all love these games. It’s a great way for your kids to get some physical activity.

But don’t let your kids have all the fun. Jump right in and participate with them. This will improve your mental condition and further strengthen your family bond. You won’t even have to buy any stuff to play these games.

You can also pay some airsoft battle royal type game. With small, airsoft guns, if your kids are up for the challenge.

4. Water Balloons

Ah, the classic water balloon games. You know what? I will let you decide what you are going to do with these balloons. Toss them at your kids? Play catch? Get soaked in the summer? I mean, you can easily come up with something fun to do with water balloons.

5. Playing Sports (Soccer, Basketball, etc.)

There are a bunch of sports you can play with your kids in the backyard. You can also get some sidewalk chalks and create a fun little obstacle course for your kids. You can also try playing hopscotch and jump rope.

At a time like this (lockdown and all that) when kids are not getting any recessed or any extracurricular activities, or even the organized sports that they were otherwise involved in, it’s important for parents that you provide your kids with those outlets, to get those activities into their day.

6. Frisbee Twisters

Finally, a fun game called frisbee twisters. Just assign a different point value to each of the colors. For example, you can assign the red color 100 points, blue 200, yellow 300, and green 400 points and toss your frisbees.

You can also add some of your own twists to the classic frisbee twister. The game itself is actually called classic twister and has a board that will tell you when to raise your arm or leg, as well as where to put your hand or feet on the dots.

These are just some of the fun stuff I came up with. There are hundreds more out there.
