Here’s An Interesting Story Of The Inventor Of Edible Spoon
Suzy a resident of Oklahoma had two cats at her home. Suzy loved cats. She used to feed them daily with canned cat food. She used spoons for smelly canned food and feed the cats. This was not the problem for her but the worst part was the washing of that smelly spoon. She used to hate this thing to wash the spoon.
How one invention contest made Suzy an inventor of edible spoons.
There used to be a weekly reader national invention contest. Ann Gillingham, first-grade teacher of Suzy at Hydro Elementary School in Hydro, Okla, made an announcement that everyone in the class should come up with an invention for the Weekly Reader’s second annual inventors’ contest. Suzy got an idea of why not invent something which she can use to feed the cat and she will not have to wash the spoon also.
After several attempts, she finally invented the first edible spoon.
With the help of her mother Jennifer, 30, and her grandmother, Wanda Gilchrist, 60, she created an edible spoon. The spoon was strong enough to scoop out the cat food from a can but not so strong enough that it could not be eaten. The ingredients that were used were all types of garlic like garlic salt and canned garlic among others. The cat used to love the taste and smell of garlic.
She won the grand prize for this invention.
Around 200000 submissions were there for the Weekly Reader’s contest and one of them was Suzy’s edible pet-food spoon as well. And she was awarded for her idea. The awards she got were a $500 savings bond and a trip to Washington D.C for National Inventor’s Expo. She loved the trip to Washington and the Inventor Expo, But on the plane ride out she got seasick.
There was an article about this in ‘Gadsden Times – Feb 8, 1987′ the topic was ‘Girl wins invention contest with the spoon’
