5 Foods That Offer a Natural Energy Boost

Working out could be one of those decisions on your list of resolutions and if you have done some research, you might have across pre-workout options. If you don’t want to get into something that comes out of a can, here are 5 all-natural pre-workout options.

5 Foods That Offer a Natural Energy Boost

1. Yogurt

Probiotics are an important aspect of working out and one of the best sources of probiotics is natural yogurt. Natural bacteria are great for your immunity and your digestive system. Natural yogurt cleanses your gut and creates a way for energy high nutrients to be easily absorbed in your body. You can mix it up with some fruit if you do not like the taste of natural yogurt.

2. Bananas

Bananas are some of the best-known energy boosters and if you have them, you can have them before you work out. Bananas offer a great source of sugar that is quickly absorbed into the body. Because of the amount of sugar in bananas, you will not experience the sluggish feeling or sugar rush that comes from eating refined sugars. Note that banana flavor is not the same as a real banana. You can freeze them up or blend them, into a smoothie and eat it up before hitting the gym.

3. Sesame Seeds

Seeds are a great energy boost that could help you get the boost you need before working out. They are packed with healthy oils and minerals that help in the production of energy. Sesame seeds can be added to your yogurt, on your fruit salad, or as part of your granola. Speaking of seeds, don’t stop at sesame seeds. You can also consume pumpkin seeds or chia seeds too.

4. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is called a superfruit for a reason and eating some before your exercise. Oatmeal can be consumed in different ways, including soaking them in yogurt or milk overnight, in granola, or in cookies. Oatmeal is on the lower side of the GI complex and it takes time to release energy into your body. This means you can have a consistent source of energy as you work out, instead of having a burst of energy that will wear you out.

5. Nuts

Peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews, and other nuts are a great natural way to add to your pre-workout meal. Nuts are packed with healthy fats that will slowly boost your energy as you work out. If you soak them overnight, you can set off the germination process, which makes them easier to eat and digest. It also adds value to the nuts, so chewing on some of them before your routine could help you stay in the gym longer.

Even with all these foods in mind, remember that the most important thing is to be hydrated. Working out causes you to sweat and lose a lot of water, so you need to replenish it. Carry your bottle with you and sip on the water throughout the routine.
