5 Ways To Implement Mindfulness At Your Place

While there has always been a lot of talk about the importance of maintaining peak physical health, it wasn’t until recently that our mental health and well-being got the same amount of attention. Nowadays, more and more people are doing their best to not only look good but actually feel good as well. And while it’s great that we’ve finally started paying the necessary attention to this important aspect, many of us still don’t quite grasp the extent to which our immediate surroundings can affect us.

However, those who do start to embrace and implement mindfulness wherever possible – in the way they live their life and interact within the society, in their offices and workplaces, and even in their homes. Implementing mindfulness in your home is very important, as it creates a happy, healthy environment that fosters joy and peacefulness, which is exactly what a home should do. So, if you’re thinking about implementing mindfulness at your place, check out some of the ways you can do so.

1. Be Centred

When trying to implement mindfulness in your home’s design, the first thing you need to do is observe your home as a whole. When decorating, many people make the mistake of observing each room of their home as an individual unit. However, if you keep your entire living space in mind while decorating, it will allow you to create a harmonious, cohesive environment in which every single room acts as a logical extension of the previous one. This way, your entire living space will be in perfect balance.

2. Be awake

Next, when designing an interior with mindfulness in mind, the colours you choose will play an important part. And no, we’re not suggesting that your entire home should be coloured in some off-white shade, but it’s important to understand that vibrant colours are not the best choice for a place that’s supposed to boost calmness.

Instead, opt for colours that have the calming effect, such as sage green or light, pale grey. These colours will keep you awake and engaged, without making you or your housemates nervous. Learn a bit more about the psychology of colours before you repaint your entire home, to make sure you’ve made the right pick.

3. Be aware

The next step of implementing mindfulness in your home might not be the favourite step, but it is very important. It involves decluttering your space and removing all the stress-evoking elements from your living environment. Here’s how you can do it. You should first spend some time in the room alone, carefully inspecting everything inside. Once you determine the things that simply don’t fit in or the ones that create a visual mess – get rid of them. Once you’re done, not only will you be left with a cleaner living space, but with a healthier one as well.

Clutter is not only visually unappealing, but it also harbours dirt and grime from the air, in turn creating an unhealthy environment. Next, aside from decluttering, you should improve the quality of your indoor air, to make sure you provide what’s best for you and your family.

Make sure that you air out your home on a regular basis and try to find the best HEPA air purifier to boost the quality of the indoor air even further.

4. Be grounded

Since we all keep such busy lifestyles, stopping for a second, taking a deep breath and simply letting it all roll off of you plays a crucial role in fostering your well-being. That’s why you should turn your living space into the environment that allows you to do just that. First, make sure you fill your space with lots of plants because indoor greenery helps us create a bond with nature – and nature is the source of all energy and life. Aside from that, they also help keep the indoor air clean and have a soothing effect on our minds.

Next, create a place where you can simply sit down and meditate or practice yoga because balancing your body with your mind is also key. Finally, you can even implement some lovely crystals in your home décor, which will help you ground yourself even better.

5. Enjoy

The most important thing when creating a mindful home is being happy with it in the end. If some of these tips did not sound like something you’d personally enjoy, simply forget about them! We’re all different and unique, which means that some things might affect us differently.

The key to a successful mindful design is identifying what works for you personally and implementing that in your home. Ultimately, all of your effort and research will be in vain if you’re not happy with the final product.

Therefore, when creating a design that will foster mindfulness, make sure you place your personal want and needs front and centre and create a space that will work in your favour. A mindful home should help you relax and de-stress after a busy day and encourage positive interaction with your housemates. And if your home does just that, congratulations! But if not, see what you can do about it.
